A new distance record has been set in the field of quantum teleportation. Scientists working in Spain's Canary Islands were able to the phenomenon known as entanglement to transmit a single qubit of information 144 km away, or 90 miles, or roughly the distance from Baltimore to Philadelphia. This breaks the previous record by 13 km. It also bodes well for the future of this burgeoning communications medium, which may eventually allow faster-than-light messaging across vast distances.
Stuff like this is so much more exciting than Paris Hilton reporting to county jail.
